Veerle Spronck is a researcher working at the intersection of arts, science, and technology. She is associate professor [associate lector] of Valuable Entrepreneurship in and through the Arts at the University of the Arts Utrecht, where she explores the societal value(s) and impact of arts and design. In practice,
this involves conducting and coordinating transdisciplinary artistic research projects on pressing societal issues such as digital citizenship, the role of ecology in design, and the nature of ‘good’ care.
With an interdisciplinary background in art history, science & technology studies, and artistic research, Spronck adapts her methods to the specific field or theme she engages with. Her work often goes beyond written outputs—sometimes taking the form of an exhibition, drawing, or étude, depending on what best fits the research.
Alongside her research, Spronck teaches in the HKU BA Design for Change and Innovation one day a week, where she co-created and coordinates the Minor Creative Research for Change. She is also one of the makers of the podcast Kunstmatig, which explores the intersections of art and technology through topics ranging from BioArt to glitch knitting.
Stuart Read is a early figure in the scholarship of effectuation and entrepreneurial action. From his industry beginnings in high-tech start-ups, through his academic career at IMD and Willamette University, to his ongoing writing in retirement, his work underscores how entrepreneurs act: using what they have, inviting partners, shaping opportunities together. His textbook is widely used, and his research brings theoretical insights into the “how” of entrepreneurship. His enduring interest in co-creation positions him at the frontier of thinking about entrepreneurship as a collective, emergent process, rather than a lone pursuit.
