THE INTERNATIONALIZATION OF SMALL AND MEDIUM-SIZED ENTERPRISES BASED IN TRANSITION ECONOMIES

This paper argues that current theory is ill suited to explaining well the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises based in transition economies. By using Straussian grounded theory, this study found that these firms internationalize by conducting multiple concurrent experiments to find strategies to ensure the best fit with their current environment and to optimize their chances of meeting the goals of the firm or its managers. The findings of this research led to the development of a model of dynamic experimental internationalization.
