"In 2005, a massive earthquake struck the Kashmir region in the mountains of India and Pakistan. Eighty-seven thousand individuals perished in the quake and three million survivors needed to rebuild their lives. The international aid organizations rushed in with supplies and food. And were joined by entrepreneurs.

          Notes Instrumental for Relief
Marc Freudweiler is the founder of a Swiss derivatives trading firm named Derilab. Freudweiler saw both the humanitarian need to rebuild the Kashmir region and the economic benefit that would result. Kashmir had been a productive area before the quake. Repairing the infrastructure would enable the businesses destroyed by the quake to resume the creation of value. Freudweiler talked with people at the United Nations High Commission on Refugees (UNHCR), and the Kashmir Relief Note was born."
